What is Sublimation Printing?

Our dye sublimation printing process for hockey jerseys uses heat-sensitive dyes to digitally print graphics and text on to a special large format dye sublimation transfer paper (like, this paper is HUGE). From there, the dyed paper is applied to pre-cut blank jersey panels and then both are placed in to a custom heat and pressure applicator.

When heating has completed, the dyed colors and images contained on the paper have been transferred to the jersey fabric and have actually re-formed and migrated in to the surface of the material (you can run your fingers across the surface of our sublimated hockey uniforms and feel nothing but the fabric itself).

This is achieved by pressure and high temperatures vaporizing the solid dye in to a gas — without ever becoming a liquid — while the hot pores of the jersey fabric open and allow the dye vapor to enter and permeate the fibers of the substrate.

When the temperature cools, the pores on the fabric close and the gas reverts back to a solid state, trapping the dyes within the material's fibers. It has now become a completely permanent part of the the uniform's fabric.
